Introduction
The Austrian participation in the IEA HPP Annex 28 refers to both the
development of a test procedure and a calculation method.
In Austria, a research focus in the field of heat pumps is the development of
direct expansion heat pumps. This type of heat pumps is available on the
Austrian market from several manufacturers for many years and their market share
is about 45%.Test procedure
The test procedure, which will be developed, is based on the
existing standards EN 255-2 and EN 255-3. To test heat pumps
with combined space heating and domestic hot water operation
these standards are not applicable as this mode of operation as
well as the type of direct expansion heat pumps is unaccounted
for these standards.
Therefore a test procedure for direct expansion heat pumps with
combined space heating and domestic hot water operation will be
developed by the Austrian team based on measurements and
monitoring direct expansion systems with desuperheating for DHW
production.
Calculation method
The calculation method is based on a bin approach as described
by the Swiss team. The task of the Austrian team is the
evaluation of the proposed standard for the calculation of the
seasonal performance factor heat pumps with combined space
heating and domestic hot water operation for of direct expansion
heat pump systems.
As for the proposed calculation method a function describing the
correlation between the source temperature and the air dry bulb
temperature is required, a special focus will be put on this
aspect for direct expansion systems and ground coupled systems
in general.
